Introducing Hyperflex 4.0

Find out about the latest updates to the hyperconvergence family of products.

Cisco has updated its HX data platform for HyperFlex Anywhere to 4.0. This includes a number of features and enhancements to provide customers with more options and flexibility.  The ‘Anywhere’ message is essentially Hyperflex can be deployed in any location, vertical and for any workloads.

One of the key innovations is the ability to deploy and scale Hyperflex clusters in remote edge sites or Anywhere more easily and seamlessly. Once the nodes have been assigned IP addresses you can now deploy your HX clusters directly from InterSight, in addition any future updating of the HX platform can be carried through Intersight.

Another feature to make the list is for 2 node solutions, there is a need for an arbitrary or witness to prevent a split brain scenario, Intersight can now be used as a witness (Intersight Invisible Cloud Witness) negating a need to scramble for a server to host a witness back at HQ DC.

When comparing to other 2 node HCI deployments you generally require a witness for each 2 node clusters. So for example, if you have 100 Edge sites with 2 node clusters you will, therefore, require 100 witness VMs hosted back at HQ. This will rack up additional costs for hardware and maintenance, Intersight witness removes this unnecessary overhead.

Other features included is the ability to scale HX Edge to 4 nodes and options for 1GB or 10 GB network connectivity. Based on the UCS C220 M5  an all-flash NVMe solution now available that can offer up to 50% more IOPS increase, this will have the ability to run really high intensive workloads and finally, there is now support for Windows server 2019.

These are some of the innovations Cisco continues to add to the HyperFlex platform.
